Free hearing and speech aids distributed

Mysore/Mysuru: JSS Institute of Speech and Hearing, Mysuru, in association with Ali Yavar Jung National Institute of Speech and Hearing Disabilities (Divyangjan), Mumbai, distributed free hearing and speech aids to beneficiaries at a programme organised at Sri Rajendra Bhavan on M.G. Road here on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, District Disabled Welfare Officer Malini said that it is important for parents to bring their children immediately for check-up if they show symptoms of speech and hearing disabilities.

Cautioning the parents against showing any laxity, she said that the JSS Speech and Hearing Institute has done a great service by distributing hearing aids for free.

Pointing out that there should be no feelings of inferiority complex in getting treated for hearing and speech disorders, Malini said that it is important to note that any delay will cost dear in treating speech and hearing disorders.

JSS  Mahavidyapeetha Secretary S.P. Manjunath, in his address, said that the Institute which has entered 21st year of its establishment, has been distributing hearing aids for free since several years.

Expressing concern that 15 to 20 percent of the country’s population is suffering from speech and hearing disorders, he stressed on the need for early treatment.

JSS Mahavidyapeetha Medical Education Division R. Mahesh, JSS Institute of Speech and Hearing Director M.P. Nataraj, Principal Dr. R. Suma, Ali Yavar Jung National Institute of Speech and Hearing Disabilities faculty Dr. Mathew, Dr. Gopal and others were present.
