Mysore/Mysuru: Sigma Hospital, Thonachikoppal Road, Saraswathipuram, Mysuru, is conducting a free kidney health screening camp at the hospital premises this Sunday (Mar.28) from 9 am to 1 pm.
Kidney diseases are on the rise and already up to 10 percent of the world population and around estimated 6+0 percent of population in Karnataka is affected with chronic kidney disease. This is due to increasing prevalence of conditions like diabetes and hypertension, along with altered food habits and unsupervised over the counter medications. Unlike other diseases, signs of kidney problems are subtle and in early stages may only be detected by blood, urine tests and scans.
For people with kidney disease, taking medications on time, avoiding pain killers, strict control of blood sugars and blood pressure, right diet and timely consultations are key to retard progression to kidney failure.
For those patients who have landed up in kidney failure, leading a normal life is now possible with options like haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and transplant (best possible treatment).
Transplant with a living related donor has a success rate of around 95 percent. Although less but increasing awareness and numbers of cadaver transplants have helped people unable to get matching kidneys. Due to advancement in these facilities, complications are less and good quality of life is now possible. Thus World Kidney Day-2021 theme is ‘Living well with kidney disease.’ Dr. K.M. Madappa is the Urologist & Transplant Surgeon at Sigma while Dr. Aniketh Prabhakar is the Nephrologist. For details contact Ph: 0821-4266661 or Mob: 91080-28661.
