Futile bid to snatch chain: Public nab accused, hand him over to Police

Mysuru: Public have caught an alleged chain snatcher, who made a futile bid to snatch a gold chain from a woman on Veene Sheshanna Road here on Sunday.

He was handed over to the Police later.

The chain snatcher, who is now in judicial custody, has been identified as 26-year-old Rajanikanth, a resident of Janata Colony in J.P. Nagar here.

The incident : On Sunday, one Latha Srinivas, a resident on Veene Sheshanna Road was hanging the clothes for drying in front of her house,  when Rajanikanth, all of a  sudden tried to snatch her gold mangalya chain.

Shocked Latha, immediately caught hold of her chain tightly and began to scream which alerted her neighbours.

As soon as Latha started to scream, Rajanikanth, left   his hold on the chain and tried to flee.

Hearing the screams of Latha, Srinivas and Latha’s neighbours Pandarinath and Gundappa, began to chase Rajanikanth, who stumbled and fell on the ground. He was then caught.

Garuda Patrol vehicle, which arrived at the spot, took custody of Rajanikanth and brought him to K.R. Police Station.

A case was registered against him and then remanded to judicial custody.

Police said that Rajanikanth was a daily wager and there are no cases registered against him earlier.
