G.S. Sangreshi is new State Election Commissioner

Bengaluru: Just a day after it issued an order (on Thursday) appointing G.S. Sangreshi (Gadigeppa Sannabasappa Sangreshi) as the new Chairman of Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes, the State Government on Friday withdrew the order and issued a fresh order appointing him as the State Election Commissioner.

Sangreshi was serving as the Principal Secretary of Law, Justice and Human Rights Department at Bengaluru, when he was appointed as the Chairman of Karnataka State Commission for Backward Classes on Thursday. But a day later, he has been appointed as the State Election Commissioner.  His tenure will be for five years.

Sangreshi had served as the Principal District and Sessions Court Judge at Mysuru last year (2023) and later  moved to Bengaluru to take up a new post. Earlier too Sangreshi had served in Mysuru as Principal Civil Judge, Mysuru district in 2008  and subsequently served at Tumakuru, Gadag, Madikeri and Bengaluru districts in later years.
