Gang of four stabs youth with crime records to death near Boti Bazar

Mysore/Mysuru: A 25-year-old youth, accused in robbery and extortion cases, has been stabbed to death by a gang of four miscreants near Boti Bazar on Wednesday night.

Deceased is Sunil alias Dattu, a resident of Kumbarakoppal in city. Sources said that, before the murder took place, a fight had ensued between Sunil and four youths in front of a hotel and the Police, who were on their regular beat had dispersed the crowd.

Later, the gang stabbed Sunil and as he tried to run away from the spot, the gang reportedly chased him and stabbed him to death.

One of the miscreants has thrown the knife on the road and the blood stained knife has been seized by the Police. The murder is said to have taken place at about 11.30 pm and Devaraja Police, who rushed to the spot, conducted mahazar, registered a case and shifted the body to MMC&RI mortuary.

Deceased Sunil is accused in many robbery and extortion cases with majority of the cases against him booked in Devaraja Police Station, it is learnt. Police sources said that Sunil used to threaten the relatives and those accompanying patients to K.R. Hospital with a knife during nights and extort money and valuables from them.

Sunil, who was jailed in a case, had come out recently and the Police have suspected the gang, which had fought with Sunil in front of a hotel, of murdering him.

Devaraja Police, who have collected CCTV footages captured in the camera installed in the hotel, have launched a hunt to nab the killers. One of the suspects has been taken into custody and the Police are interrogating him.
