Gang threatens driver, flees with Rs. 27 lakh

Maddur: A gang of miscreants, which waylaid a car, threatened the driver and fled with Rs. 27 lakh the driver was carrying to the head office. The incident took place at Maddur at about 8 pm on Friday.

On Friday, the driver identified as M. Govindaraju, was taking the cash belonging to Hitachi company in Mysuru to the head office in Bengaluru.

Meanwhile, a gang of three to four miscreants, who were following the car, waylaid it near Aishwarya International School in Maddur town at about 8 pm, threatened Govindaraju with lethal weapon and fled from the spot within seconds.

Govindaraju immediately lodged a complaint at Maddur Police Station. Based on the complaint, a case has been registered by the Police.

Inspector Naveen and staff, who responded swiftly, visited the spot and conducted preliminary investigation. A Police team has been formed to trace and arrest the miscreants.

It may be recalled that the then ADGP (Traffic and Road Safety) Alok Kumar, following increase in dacoity cases on Mysuru-Bengaluru Highway had inspected the Highway along with officials concerned and had got CCTV cameras installed at various spots where Highway dacoities had taken place. He had also deployed Highway Patrol vehicles which had put brakes to such dacoity incidents.

But Friday’s case which took place at about 8 pm, has given rise to doubts and  has created a sense of fear among motorists plying on Mysuru-Bengaluru Highway.
