Ganjifa Raghupathi Bhat bats for art in education

Inter-School Dasara Drawing Competition held at Nypunya

Mysore/Mysuru: Renowned artist Ganjifa Raghupathi Bhat, known for his award-winning contributions to the world of art, appealed for the inclusion of fine arts as an integral part of education.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Inter-School Nypunya Dasara Drawing Competition, organised by the Nypunya School of Excellence in R.T. Nagar, Bhat emphasised that fostering a love for the art among children can nurture cultural awareness and foster intellectual growth.

Nada Habba Dasara, a source of pride and heritage for Karnataka, is more than just a traditional festival. It serves as a unique platform where various forms of arts and artists converge to celebrate cultural activities. He commended the efforts of the Nypunya School of Excellence for creating a platform that allows children to showcase their artistic talents and tastes through this competition.

R. Raghu, Chairman of Nypunya School, presided over the event and expressed his gratitude to Raghupathi Bhat, for his role in reviving and preserving the traditional Ganjifa art, gaining global recognition.

He stressed the importance of incorporating traditional art into educational institutions, instilling cultural awareness from an early age, and preserving the cultural glory and historical heritage of the region. Nypunya School is dedicated to this noble cause.

The drawing competition, organised for students across different categories, had themes centred around historical places, folk culture and puppet festivals. Hundreds of students from various schools in the city and the surroundings participated, showcasing their artistic talents and celebrating the rich cultural heritage of Karnataka.

The event was attended by the School’s Principal Shobhita S. Aradhya and Academic Coordinator Shalini Majo.
