Garden of Democracy

Dasara Flower Show from Oct. 11

Mysuru: The Department of Horticulture will organise the Dasara Flower Show-2026 at Kuppanna Park from Oct. 11 to 21 under the theme ‘Festival of Democracy’, Joint Director K.N. Roopashree announced.

Addressing a press conference at the Department’s auditorium in Curzon Park, Mysuru, she said the flower show would be held at two venues this year: Kuppanna Park (Nishad Bagh) and Lingambudhi Botanical Garden.

The exhibitions will be open to visitors from 9 am to 9 pm daily. Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar will inaugurate the flower show at Kuppanna Park on Oct. 11 at 12.30 pm along with dignitaries.

Pillars of democracy

The main attraction at the Glass House in Kuppanna Park will be a floral replica of Vidhana Soudha, measuring 57 ft wide, 20 ft long and 37 ft high. It will be made using about two lakh red roses, 4,000 chrysanthemums and 25,000 decorative leaves.

Arrangements underway for the replica.

Ornamental plants, including Mexican grass, Anthurium, Gladiolus, Lilium, Carnation and Bird of Paradise, will be used to enhance the displays. The work will require nearly 1,000 kg of wire mesh and 900 floral foam boxes.

Floral models depicting three pillars of democracy, Legislature, Executive and Judiciary, will be another attraction. Models of ballot boxes, electronic voting machines, control units and voter-verified paper audit trail (VVPAT) units will also be on display.

Floral depiction of Rajarshi

A floral depiction of Rajarshi Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar seated on the throne will recall the history of the erstwhile Mysore kingdom and his contributions. Other attractions include a floral model of Hampi’s stone chariot, a replica of Mysuru’s Chikka Gadiyara (Dufferin Clock Tower) and special bonsai plants.

The Glass House will feature exotic flowers and ornamental foliage sourced from Kolkata, Ooty, Pune, Bengaluru and Hassan. A giant floral cake model will also be created as part of the Dasara Cake Exhibition.

Around 75,000 flower pots featuring 49 varieties of annual ornamental flowers, grown in the department’s nurseries, will be displayed at Kuppanna Park. Stalls showcasing agricultural and horticultural products, along with food stalls, will also be set up.

At Lingambudhi Botanical Garden, the Flower Show and Garden Tour will be inaugurated by District Minister Dr. Yathindra Siddaramaiah on Oct. 11 at 1 pm. [See also Page-8]
