Nanjangud; A girl, alleging that her lover cheated her after promising to marry her, has attempted suicide in her lover’s house at Kandegala in Nanjangud taluk about three days ago.
It is learnt that one Tyagaraj of Kandegala village was said to be in love with the girl of the same village since four years. As Tyagaraj’s family members had opposed their relationship, he is said to have rejected the marriage proposal from the girl.
Three days ago, Tyagaraj, who was celebrating his birthday, had also invited the girl to the celebration, during which the girl again put the marriage proposal. Angered over this Tyagaraj is said to have slapped the girl in front of others.
Upset over Tyagaraj’s behaviour, the girl, who went to Tyagaraj’s house informed his (Tyagaraj) mother about their love affair and reportedly consumed poison in the house in an attempt to end her life. Villagers rushed her to Nanjangud Government Hospital and following doctors’ advice, the girl has been shifted to K.R. Hospital in Mysuru. Hullahalli Police, who visited K.R. Hospital have obtained her statements and village elders have decided to hold a panchayat in two days to sort out the issue. Hence, no complaint has been lodged. Police said that the girl has informed that she would lodge a complaint if she did not get justice at the village panchayat.
