Girl drowns in bathing ghat

Nanjangud: A 13-year-old girl, who was taking a holy dip at the Kapila bathing ghat, reportedly drowned after slipping and falling into the river yesterday.

The deceased girl is Yogeshwari, daughter of Prakash and Asharani couple of Kurubahalli village in K.R. Pet taluk.

According to Police, the girl and her parents had come to Srikanteshwara Swamy Temple in the temple town and had performed ‘Urulu Seve.’

Before entering the temple to have the darshan of the presiding deity, they went to the Kapila bathing ghat to take a holy dip during which Yogeshwari slipped and fell into the river, which was not noticed and the girl was drowned.

The body was fished out and shifted the Taluk Hospital mortuary, where post-mortem was performed and the body was handed over to the family members.

A case has been registered at Nanjangud Town Police Station.
