Hunsur: A 19-year-old girl committed suicide by hanging self to the ceiling fan at her house after her lover refused to marry her.
The incident took place at Shyanabhoganahalli village in Hunsur taluk yesterday and the deceased has been identified as Ranjitha.
Ranjitha was supposed to get married to a youth from Gowdanahalli village in K.R. Nagar taluk at Mahadeshwara Temple in Bilikere on Feb. 18. But the girl had run away with her lover Venugopal, a month before her marriage and when she came back, her family members summoned the groom’s family members and after holding panchaythi, they convinced the groom’s side for the marriage.
But on Feb. 14, just four days before the marriage, the girl again fled with her lover following which the marriage did not take place.
Meanwhile, Venugopal cheated and refused to marry her following which Ranjitha lodged a complaint against Venugopal, accusing him of raping and refusing to marry her. She has also filed a complaint against one Mahesh for supporting Venugopal at Bilikere Police Station on Feb. 21.
Bilikere Police, who had registered a case, began their investigation. Later, Venugopal and Mahesh had gone absconding. Depressed over Police not arresting the accused and not taking action, Ranjitha took the extreme step.
