Girl ends life by jumping into river

Hunsur: An 18-year-old girl allegedly ended her life by jumping into Lakshmanatheertha River near the Pump House in the town yesterday.

The deceased girl is identified as Deepika, daughter of Nanjundaswamy of Harave village in the taluk. She was pursuing her second year BA course at a private college in Mysuru and was staying at the hostel.

Deepika, who did not go to the college yesterday, went to Hunsur, where she kept her college bag and identity card near the Pump House and jumped into the River.

Meanwhile, a few people, who were conducting the last rites on the banks of the Ricer, saw her jumping into the River and screamed for help. Soon, staff of the Pump House rushed to the spot, but the girl had drowned by then.

Fire and Emergency Services personnel fished out her body.

Public, who had gathered at the spot, noticed the college bag and identity card, called her father over the phone number which was mentioned on the identity card and informed him about the tragedy.

Deepika’s father, who rushed to the spot, lodged a complaint at Hunsur Town Police Station.

In her death note, Deepika has stated, “I am responsible for my death. I have cheated my parents. I could not live up to their expectations. Please forgive me.” The body was handed over to family members after conducting postmortem at a hospital.
