Nanjangud: A 15-year-old girl of Banchalli Hundi in Nanjangud taluk committed suicide allegedly after her parents forced her to discontinue studies over the harassment of a youth of the same village who had developed feelings towards her, yesterday morning. Nanjangud Rural Police who had registered a case have also arrested the youth.
Chandana, daughter of Ramesh, who was studying in Class 10 at Government High School, Thandavapura, is that girl. She took her life by hanging with her chudidar veil in the house.
The girl’s father Ramesh has complained to Nanjangud Rural Police Station alleging that, “Sharath, son of Venkatesh of the village, was harassing his daughter to love him. He was following her to the school and also while returning home, only to force her to accept his overture. When Chandana brought the matter to my notice, I had even advised Sharath to stay away from my daughter. But Sharath had continued to trouble Chandana to accept his love.”
Irked, Ramesh had forced his daughter to stay at home. Upset over this, Chandana took the extreme step, according to the complaint lodged at Nanjangud Rural
Police Station.
Sub-Inspector of Police Shivananja Shetty, who visited the spot, arrested Sharath and handed over the body of Chandana to her parents after post-mortem.
