Glass case of benevolent King’s bust damaged again

Mysuru: The glass covering of the bust of Mummadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar, installed in front of the Maharaja’s Junior College entrance, has been damaged once again leaving the front portion of the glass covering on the top broken. It is suspected that miscreants or those using the ground in front of the College entrance to play may have broken the glass yesterday afternoon.

Also, there is no security to the College as the compound in front of the College had collapsed years ago. The building too is in a dilapidated condition, which had led to alumni of the College staging protest to draw the attention of the State Government during the birth anniversary of Mummadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar last year.

Principal T.R. Siddaraju, speaking to Star of Mysore this morning, said that the incident may have occurred yesterday afternoon and added that though there are 12 CCTV cameras installed in the College, the incident has not been captured due to power failure in the afternoon.

He said that the State Government has sanctioned Rs.3 crore for the renovation of the building with MLA Vasu and MLC K.T. Srikantegowda assuring of sanctioning Rs.10 lakh each for the construction of the compound. The glass will be replaced in a day or two, he said.

It may be recalled that the right side glass of the case was found broken in 2016 and was replaced with the help of the Alumni Association which had spent thousands of rupees to replace the broken glass.
