Gold fraud victims urged to approach Mysuru CCB

Mysore/Mysuru: The Mysuru City Police have appealed to victims of a large-scale gold fraud to approach the City Crime Branch (CCB) with relevant documents to assist in the ongoing investigation.

According to a press release issued by the office of the Police Commissioner, Soundar Raj alias Chinnathambi, proprietor of Dhana Ganapathi Golden and Diamond Firm (DGF), allegedly cheated customers by promising to purchase gold ornaments at premium prices and provide loans at lower interest rates.

Police said he later melted the pledged ornaments without paying customers their due value and allegedly misused the assets for personal gain.

Based on a complaint lodged by H. Mahantesh of Davangere, Kuvempunagar Police                                     registered an FIR against the accused. CCB sleuths arrested Soundar Raj on Apr. 29.

The case has been booked at Kuvempunagar Police Station under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including cheating and criminal breach of trust. Provisions of the Karnataka Protection of Interest of Depositors (KPID) Act have also been invoked.

Police have urged people who may have been similarly cheated in gold transactions with the firm to meet the Assistant Commissioner of Police, CCB Unit, Mysuru City, along with supporting records to facilitate further investigation and legal action.
