Gold jewellery worth Rs. 2.4 lakh stolen from house

An incident of gold jewellery weighing about 80 grams and worth Rs. 2.4 lakh being stolen when the family members were in the house has been reported at Nazarbad in city yesterday morning.

The incident took place in the house of one Vikas (Vinay), a resident of Durga Devi Temple Street in Nazarbad here and working at the ticket counter in K.R. Nagar Railway Station.

It is reported that Vikas on Tuesday morning left for work leaving behind his 57-year-old mother Nirmala, wife Nandini and kid at home.

Nandini, speaking to SOM said that as her mother-in-law had come home, she had left the door open and was putting her kid to sleep in the first floor of the house.

She further said that she heard the sound of the almirah being opened and thought that her mother-in-law was keeping the Post Office documents inside.

But when she came to the ground floor of the house at about 12.20 pm, Nandini said that she found the jewel box on the TV stand and when she searched for her mother-in-law, she found her sitting in the neighbour’s house.

Nandini said that when she searched the almirah, she found a 15 grams necklace, gold chain and 11 finger rings weighing 50 grams missing and added that Rs. 20,000 cash which was kept separately by her mother-in-law was left untouched.

Nazarbad Police, who rushed to the spot on receiving information, conducted mahazar and when they checked the CCTV footages of the camera installed in Sachidananda School, they found a woman with a kid moving suspiciously near the house and the Police have doubted that the woman may have committed the theft.

Nazarbad Police, who have registered a case in this regard are investigating.
