Gold worth Rs. 5.5 lakh stolen from locked house

Mysuru: A house-breaking theft was reported in Dattagalli this morning after a woman returned to her residence and found gold jewellery missing from a cupboard.

According to the Police, Vimala (name changed), 65, who lives alone in a house near Rotary School, had been staying with her son in Bengaluru for medical treatment. She had last visited her house on May 31 and found everything in order before returning to Bengaluru the same day. When she returned to the house yesterday, she discovered that a cupboard in one of the rooms had been broken open and jewellery was missing.

Police suspect the burglary took place between May 31 and June 12. The burglars are believed to have gained entry by bending the window grills of a room before breaking open the cupboard.

The miscreants allegedly escaped with about 40 grams of gold jewellery worth approximately Rs. 5.50 lakh,  besides a few artificial ornaments.

On receiving information about the theft, personnel from Kuvempunagar Police Station, accompanied by the Dog Squad and Fingerprint Experts, visited the spot and conducted a mahazar. Police said, they are yet to receive a formal complaint from the house owner, following which a case will be registered and further investigation taken up.
