Government to hold meeting with farmer leaders

Bengaluru: The State Government has announced that it will soon convene a meeting of farmer leaders in a bid to resolve long-standing agrarian issues.

Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T.B. Jayachandra and Health Minister Ramesh Kumar, who visited the farmers who have been protesting at Freedom Park here for the past couple of days, asserted that the State Government was committed for the welfare of the farming community and assured that the Government will not let them down.

The farmers are demanding farm loan waiver, withdrawal of cases registered against farmers, announcement of a special drought relief package, filling up of lakes, water tanks and other water bodies, practical measures for prevention of farmers’ suicide, drinking water to villages, compensation for crop loss and a comprehensive fertiliser policy, among others.
