‘Government must consider tax refund, GST exemption’

October 5, 2019

Mysuru: Reacting on the Supreme Court Judgement, Sanjay K. Shetty, President of Sri Kanteerava Narasimharaja Sports Club in city, told Star of Mysore this morning that the Supreme Court’s tax relief for food and service in incorporated clubs comes a bit late and may not apply to those who have already paid and are paying the service tax and sales tax.

“We are in the GST regimen now and we have already remitted service tax and sales tax (now GST). Those clubs that have not paid the taxes might get relief in the light of the SC ruling,” he said.

On the future implications of the SC judgement, Sanjay said that following the SC order, the Government must consider refunding of the already paid service tax and sales tax. “If the money is reimbursed, then clubs like ours will benefit. Also, in future, the Government must grant us GST exemption and this move will provide the clubs with a big relief,” he added.
