Bengaluru: After over two years delay, the Government on Thursday announced the reservation matrix for Presidential posts (President and Vice-President) of 59 City Municipal Corporations (CMCs), 90 Town Municipal Corporations (TMCs) and three Town Panchayats (TPs) across the State.
The election to Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in the State was held in August 2018 when the JD(S)-Congress Coalition Government was in power. But as the reservation matrix for Presidential posts was not announced, the ULBs did not have an elected Administrative Council. As a result, the elected members of ULBs could not wield their power in the absence of an elected Council in place.
Although the Government had announced the reservation matrix a few months after the elections, some elected members moved the Court and succeeded in getting a stay. With all hurdles cleared, the Government has announced the reservation matrix, which are as follows:
Hunsur CMC: President – Woman (General); Vice-President – ST.
Nanjangud CMC: President – General Category; Vice-President – Woman (General).
Madikeri CMC: President – Woman (General); Vice-President – BC-A Woman.
Mandya CMC: President – General Category; Vice-President – BC-A Category.
Chamarajanagar CMC: President – Woman (General); Vice-President – Woman (ST).
Kollegal CMC: President – Woman (BC); Vice-President – Woman (ST).
H.D. Kote TMC: President – ST (Woman); Vice-President – General Category.
K.R. Nagar TMC: President – General Category; Vice-President – SC (Woman).
Bannur TMC: President – Woman (ST); Vice-President- Woman (General).
Periyapatna TMC: President – BC-A Category; Vice-President – Woman (General).
With the Government announcing the reservation, the Deputy Commissioners will have to announce the schedule for election to Presidential posts concerning ULBs in their respective district.
