Govt. officer’s wife loses Rs. 55,000 to bitcoin

Mysore/Mysuru: A Government officer’s wife, who was lured online towards making huge profits by investing in bitcoins, has allegedly ended up losing Rs. 55,000 in the racket.

The woman, wife of Government officer N.S. Rohit, a resident of Kuvempunagar in the city came across the information related to bicoin on the Instagram status of her friend. She enquired about the information and was directed to send a message to-@oliva_smith_788_- for details. She sent a message and was offered Rs. 1.70 lakh returns on the investment of Rs. 15,000. She was told to transfer Rs. 55,000 for registering a trading account.

 It was only after learning that she has been cheated, that the victim came to know that the information on bitcoin had been uploaded after hacking her friend’s Instagram account.

In another case, P. Prashanth Kumar, 40, of Bank Colony, Bogadi has lost Rs. 4.91 lakh after allegedly falling to the trap of part-time job.

In yet another case, 30-year-old Madhusudhan of Manchegowdana Koppal in city has been cheated of Rs. 88,000 online. He was allegedly offered higher profit margins for investing on several goods.

Cyber Economic and Narcotics (CEN) Crime Police have registered the cases and are investigating.
