Gowtham, Jofra Archer star as Rajasthan beat Mumbai

Jaipur: In a game of see-sawing fortunes, Rajasthan Royals (RR) pipped Mumbai Indians (MI) by three wickets at home to pick their third win of the season.

Jofra Archer (3 for 22), Sanju Samson (52) and Ben Stokes (40) laid the platform but when Mumbai clawed their way back into the game through late strikes, Rajasthan Royals found an unlikely hero in K. Gowthamwho hammered an 11-ball unbeaten 33 to help the hosts polish off the 168-run chase with two deliveries to spare.

The win kept Rajasthan in touching distance of the top 4 spots as now they have 3 wins and 3 losses from 6 games.

Champions Mumbai meanwhile compounded their misery as they still have only 1 win to their name in 5 games. They will next face Hyderabad on Tuesday, while Rajasthan will enjoy a six-day rest before their next game.

Scores

MI: 167 for seven in 20 overs (Suryakumar Yadav 72, Ishan Kishan 58, Kieorn Pollard 21, Dhawal Kulkarni two for 32, Jofra Archer three for 22) lost to RR: 168 for seven in 19.4 overs (Sanju Samson 52, Ben Stokes 40, K.Gowtham 33 n.o.).

CSK beat SRH

Dwayne Bravo consistently bowled in the blockhole in a tense finish as Chennai Super Kings prevailed over a weakened Sunrisers Hyderabad by four runs in an IPL match to consolidate their position at the top of the points table yesterday.

Winning the toss, Hyderabad captain Kane Williamson opted to field. CSK started slow but were powered to 182/3, courtesy Ambati Rayudu’s smashing knock of 79 off only 37 balls and Suresh Raina’s brisk 43-ball 54.

The visiting team then stopped the hosts at 178 for six, with medium pacer Deepak Chahar doing the bulk of the damage.

Needing 33 runs in the last two overs, Yusuf Pathan and Rashid Khan blasted a six each off Shardul Thakur in the penultimate over.

Given the responsibility of bowling the final over with SRH requiring 19 runs, the composed Dwayne Bravo was hit for six and a four by Rashid to bring the equation to six off one. Bravo managed to get it on the blockhole and Rashid could only manage a single.

Ambati Rayudu was adjudged as the Man of the Match.
