Groom on way to wedding stabbed

January 30, 2026

Kollegal: A groom, who was on his way for his wedding, has been admitted to a hospital after he was stabbed.

The incident took place in the town yesterday night and the injured groom, who is undergoing treatment at Kollegal Government Hospital is 34-year-old  L. Raveesh, a resident of Kunagalli village in the taluk. It is suspected that the bride’s former boyfriend may have stabbed Raveesh.

Details: It is learnt that Raveesh’s marriage was fixed with a girl from Hosa Anagalli village in the taluk and the wedding was to take place at Venkateshwara Mahal in Kollegal.

Yesterday night, Raveesh, along with his family members were on their way to the wedding hall from their village in a car. While they were proceeding near MGSV College Road, miscreants, who had been following the car, overtook the vehicle  and waylaid it.

The miscreants, who came near the car, told Raveesh that he should be going to the crematorium and not the wedding hall and suddenly assaulted Raveesh with a knife and fled from the spot. Raveesh suffered  severe bleeding due to the injury on his left arm.

Raveesh has been admitted to Kollegal Government Hospital and he is said to be out of danger.

It is suspected that the former boyfriend of the bride may have committed the crime and Kollegal Police, who have registered a case, have launched a hunt to nab the accused.

Speaking to media persons, Raveesh said that he was engaged with the girl from Hosa Anagalli six months ago and as the marriage was to take place on Jan. 30, he was on his way to the Kalyana Mantap, when the miscreants, who were following in another car suddenly attacked and assaulted him with a knife. He stated that he did not know the identity of those who attacked him.
