A call for immediate action
Sir,
Vijayanagar 4th Stage in Mysuru, once known for its peaceful residential charm, and NPS School Road, a stroller’s paradise, are now battling an alarming issue — unchecked garbage accumulation, dysfunctional street lights and vacant sites turned into forest-like land.
Piles of waste lying unattended across the locality have not only become an eyesore but pose a serious threat to public health, especially as summer sets in.
The scorching summer heat accelerates the decomposition of organic waste, releasing foul odours and attracting flies, rodents and stray animals. These conditions create the perfect breeding ground for several diseases.
Residents are fearing of health issues such as Dengue and Malaria, respiratory problems, etc.
Children and the elderly are particularly vulnerable and many residents fear a major outbreak if timely steps are not taken.
The local municipal authorities have shown little urgency in addressing the problem. Garbage collection is irregular and there is a lack of proper waste segregation.
Some areas have no designated collection bins, pushing residents to dispose of garbage in open plots or street corners.
Moreover, there has been little to no awareness campaigns or strict enforcement of waste management regulations. Earlier I used to clean up my surrounding area but now the trash has blown out of my cleaning capacity.
The residents of Vijayanagar 4th Stage are calling for immediate intervention from the Mysuru City Corporation and relevant authorities. Clean surroundings are not just a matter of civic pride — they are essential to public health and quality of life. It’s time the authorities wake up to this crisis before the garbage menace turns into a full-blown health disaster.
