GSSSIETW Science Club conducts Sky Watch

Mysore/Mysuru: The Science Club of GSSS Institute of Engineering and Technology for Women (GSSSIETW), Mysuru had organised star gazing (Sky Watch) in association with Gravity Science Foundation, Chamarajanagar recently.

Dr. S.N. Prasad, Amateur Astronomer and former Principal of Regional Institute of Education (RIE), Mysuru, who was the guest speaker, gave a presentation on the latest developments in space research followed by explanation of the notable natural phenomena like meteor showers, comets, nova, nebulae, different stars, star clusters, galaxies, sun spots, constellations and other meteorological phenomena with slide show.

The event being the first-of-its- kind in the campus kindled enthusiasm among the members of the Science Club. It helped them gain knowledge about the basics of night sky viewing, enjoy the cosmos and feel its vastness. Planets like Venus, Jupiter and Mars, craters on the moon and galaxies Sirius and Canopus were viewed during the event. Students were engaged in constellation identification of Orion, Taurus and the Cassiopeia.

Founder of Gravity Science Foundation A.S. Abhishek and faculty coordinators of the Science Club guided the students during the star gazing.

Dr. M. Shivakumar, Principal, GSSSIETW, presided. The faculty members, office-bearers and 300 student members of the Club actively participated in the event, according to a press release from Dr. S.N. Sheshadri, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, GSSSIETW.
