Mysuru: Karnataka State Co-operative Federation (KSCF), Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF), District Co-operative Federation and Department of Co-operation, together had organised a workshop on Goods and Services Tax (GST) for staff of KMF, Co-operative Federation and DCC Banks at Lalitha Mahal Palace Hotel here on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, Mruthyunjaya Kulkarni, Director (Marketing), KMF, opined that combining various types of taxes into one GST had pushed up the sale of KMF products. He refuted the claim of a few people that GST had affected sales of many products in the State.
He disclosed that with the introduction of GST, KMF products have seen a 30% increase in sales outside Karnataka and added that it would boost the profit by 5%.

Addressing the gathering, B.V. Ravi, Additional Commissioner, Department of Commercial Taxes, observed that GST had not affected any trade. However, he said that opposition had come on GST from textile and hotel sectors. He further said that textiles were exempt from tax and added that imposition of GST on hotel food had pushed up the price thus inviting criticism from hoteliers and customers in particular as alleged by many hoteliers.
Inaugurating the workshop, KSCF President Dr. Shekargowda Malipatel asked officials to come out of confusion to enlighten others on advantages of GST.
MCDCC Bank President S. Chandrashekar, District Milk Producers Co-operative Federation President K.G. Mahesh, State Co-operative Federation Vice-President H.V. Nagaraj, Director Dasaiah and others were present.
