Gujarat Handicrafts Utsav at JSS Urban Haat from today

Mysuru:  Handicrafts are an integral part of the lives of Gujarati people. One can see the reflection of Gujarat’s diversity through its art and crafts collection. Each and every district of Gujarat specialises in a different art form.

Handicrafts of Gujarat are a beautiful amalgamation of stitches, colours, patterns and embroidery. From colourful tie-dye to sophisticated wooden antiques, there is no dearth of opulent handicrafts options in Gujarat.

Here is some good news for Mysureans who have keen interest in handicrafts. The Indext-C, Industrial Extension Cottage, a Government of Gujarat Organisation, is hosting Gujarat Handicrafts Utsav-2018 for the third time in Karnataka from July 6 to 15 at JSS Mysore Urban Haat, Hebbal Industrial Area, Mysuru.

More than 50 master artisans of Gujarat are participating in the exhibition. The creative artisans will exhibit, demonstrate and sell their rich art and crafts like Gujarati pride Patola Sarees,  Bandhani (Tie & Dye), Block Print, Kutchhi Embroidery, Kutchhi Mud Mirror Work, Kutchhi & Eco-friendly Jewllery, Copper Bell, Azarkh Print, Tangaliya Weaving, Warli painting, Bed Sheet-Towel-Cushion Cover Handloom Products, Bead Work, Terracotta, Adek work, Chania Choli, Aplic Work, Leather Work items etc.

Besides shopping, people who visit the expo can also enjoy special Gujarati food. The Utsav will be held from 10 am to 9 pm every day. There is no entry free.

The Gujarat Handicraft Utsav will be inaugurated by G.T. Devegowda, Minister for Higher Education, today at 4 pm.  S.R.Mahesh, Minister for Tourism, will preside. S.A. Ramdas, KR MLA, Abhiram G. Sankar, Deputy Commissioner, B.Ramu, Director, Department of Tourism, Bengaluru, R. Girish, Commissioner for Textile Development & Director, Department of Textile & Handloom, Bengaluru,  Dr. C G Betsurmath, Executive Secretary, JSS Mahavidyapeetha, Dr. C. Ranganathaiah, Director (P&D), JSS Technical Education Division, B.R.Umakant, Joint Director (Projects), JSS Technical Education Division, P.G.Patel, Executive Director, Indext-C, Gujarat, D.K. Lingaraju, Joint Director, District Industries Centre (DIC), Mysuru,  R. R. Jadav, Manager Class-1, Indext-C and Dr. S. D. Makwana, Marketing Manager, Indext-C, will be the chief guests.

P.G.Patel, Executive Director, Indext-C, has appealed to the craft-loving people of Mysuru to visit the Utsav and motivate the artisans by purchasing their artifacts, which will provide the much-needed livelihood to the artisans.
