Profile: Pandit Indudhar Nirody, born on July 11, 1935 in Puttur, Dakshina Kannada, hails from a family of musicians and was initiated to music at the age of 10 by his father Nirody Sunderrao. He learnt Hindustani music under Gawai Pitre Rama Rao and gave his first concert at the age of 12. After moving to Mumbai, he further trained under stalwarts like Pt. Gurudat Heblekar, Acharya SCR Bhat, Acharya KG Ginde, Pt. Dinkar Kaikini and Pt. Chidanand Nagarkar for well over two decades.

He had accompanied his Gurus in concerts, in addition to giving solo performances. He had assimilated and imbibed finer aspects of Raagdari Sangeet. A stickler to tradition, he improvises with great elan. While his forte is Khayal singing, having trained in Agra Gharana style, he is equally at ease in rendering Dhrupad-Dhamars and Thumris. He has performed all over the country including lecture-demonstrations on various aspects of Hindustani music. He was conferred with an Honorary Doctorate by Karnataka State Dr. Gangubai Hanagal Music and Performing Arts University, Mysuru.
