Guruvandana to Parur Parampara at Nadabrahma

As part of Guruvandana to Parur Parampara, a day-long music programme is arranged on Sunday (Jan. 13)  from 11 am to 8.30 pm at Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha’s K. Vasudevacharya Bhavan, in memory of Vid. Prof. Parur Sundaram Iyer, Kalaimamani Vid. Parur M. S. Anantharaman and Padma Bhushana, Violin Vadya Samrat Vid. Parur M. S. Gopalakrishnan, revered violin maestros of Karnatak classical music.

Parur Sundaram Iyer, who was an outstanding violinist, introduced violin to Hindustani music, while learning under the legendary Hindustani musician Pandit D.V. Paluskar. Both his sons excelled in Karnatak and Hindustani styles of classical music and the trio are acclaimed as the proponents of ‘Parur bani’, a school of music famous for melody.

Violin maestro, Vid. H K. Narasimhamurthy of Mysore, a student who had the opportunity to acquire the musical knowledge from all the above legendary violinists, has arranged the programme in memory of his gurus. More than 60 of his students will perform on violin on that day, accompanied by eminent percussion artistes from the city.
