Mysuru: Nearly half of Civil Services aspirants, who had opted the city centres for the Civil Services (Prelims) Exam-2017 conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), failed to appear for the exam yesterday.
A total of 5,032 aspirants had registered at 15 centres in the city, out of which only 2,572 appeared while 2,460 abstained, it is learnt.
The centres in the city were Maharani’s Science College, Banumaniah College, Marimallpa’s High School, Maharani’s Arts College, CKC Convent, Maharaja’s College, Yuvaraja’s College, SDM College, Vidyavardhaka PU College, St. Joseph’s School, St. Matthias School, St. Philomena’s College, TTL College, St. Joseph’s College, Jayalakshmipuram and Nirmala Convent,V.V. Mohalla.
The UPSC had appointed four Route Observers and a Resident Observer at each of the 15 centres, to ensure smooth conduct of the exam.
The exam was held in 2 sessions — 9.30 am to 11.30 am and 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm.
Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep went around some of the centres.
Tight Police security was provided around all the centres.
