Hampi University confers Nadoja Award on Pt. Rajiv Taranath

Mysuru:  The prestigious Nadoja Award-2017 given by Hampi Kannada University was conferred on Sarod Maestro Pandit Rajiv Taranath at a simple function held at his residence in Saraswathipuram here this morning.

The award was presented to the Maestro by Hampi Kannada University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Mallika S. Ghanti in recognition of his contribution to the field of music. Registrar D. Panduranga Babu, Study Centre Director Dr. Shivananda S. Virakthamatha, Fine Arts Dean Dr. Ashok Kumar Ranjere, Social Science Dean Dr. Manjunath Bevinakatti, veteran littérateur Dr. C.P. Krishnakumar, former Director of PU Education Prof. B.S. Sridhar Raje Urs, Rangayana   Director Bhagirathi Bai Kadam and others were present.

Speaking on the occasion, Pt. Rajiv Taranath expressed happiness on receiving the award. He pointed out that music should be taught in Universities in such a way that great musicians should emerge. He, however, regretted that commercialisation had creeped into the portals of  Universities also.
