Mysore/Mysuru: The Lakshmipuram Police have registered an FIR against University of Mysore (UoM) Physical Education Department (PED) Director Dr. Venkatesh in connection with the incident where a Department student attempted suicide in front of the Vice-Chancellor’s chamber in Crawford Hall on Sept. 9, alleging harassment by the Director.
K.J. Gagan, 24 years, a Post-Graduate student of Physical Education and a native of Bhuvanahalli village in Hassan district, was found lying ill in front of the VC’s chamber on the morning of Sept. 9 after consuming excessive BP pills, following which he was rushed to K.R. Hospital by the Department faculty T.S. Ravi and his friend Sudhir, from where he was shifted to DRM Hospital in Vontikoppal for higher treatment.
In his complaint with the Lakshmipuram Police, Gagan said that he went to the Basketball Court near the Oval Grounds on the morning of Sept. 9, when one Mohan told him not to play sports and asked him to meet the Department Director Prof. Venkatesh.
“As told, I met Dr. Venkatesh when I was warned against taking part in sports. The Director also threatened me to hurt my academics by filing a complaint against me through a girl student and also fail me in the exams. Dr. Venkatesh had also assaulted me on July 18 for which I got treated in K.R. Hospital for the injuries I sustained. Then Dr. Venkatesh had apologised for his act in the presence of my parents and hence he did not lodge a complaint then. But Dr. Venkatesh again started harassing me, following which I attempted suicide by consumption of excessive pills,” he said in the complaint.
Based on Gagan’s complaint, the Police have registered a case against Dr. Venkatesh under Sections 325 and 506 of IPC, it is learnt.
