Mysuru: The City Police will keep a strict watch on the partying crowd during the New Year Eve tomorrow (Dec.31).
DCP Dr. Vikram V. Amathe told SOM that the Police vigil will start at 7 pm tomorrow. “We will not spare people who indulge in drunken driving, hooliganism and eve-teasing. Barricades will be placed at strategic points on Ring Road and at various link roads across the city to prevent vehicles from speeding,” he said.
The Police Control Room will monitor all the 44 CCTV cameras installed at various junctions and if there is trouble, the jurisdiction Police teams will be alerted. “We have five interceptors that will monitor vehicle speed and fines will be levied on over-speeding. This apart, there will be 25 Policemen wearing body-cameras to record the happenings. Action will be taken based on the visuals recorded,” he said.
DCPs, ACPs, Inspectors, Sub-Inspectors and the constabulary have been asked to be on duty from 7 pm tomorrow till the morning of Jan.1 and Special Forces will be on standby for any situation.
The Police have constituted a Special Police Unit for Women and Children (SPUWAC) to protect the vulnerable groups. While the N.R. Police (88617-86328) will have one unit, Devaraja Division (94808-02235) will have two units and KR Division (88617-86343) three units.
