Bharathinagar: A fan who had vowed not to marry until ‘Kumaranna’ attended the wedding was ecstatic when former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy (HDK) visited his house and greeted the newly-married couple.
Ravi, a resident of Kokkare Bellur, had started a fast on Nov.29 urging HDK to attend his wedding. He ended his fast when he was assured that the former CM would attend the wedding. However, HDK was unable to attend Ravi’s wedding that occurred on Dec.1.
Later, HDK had called him over the phone and told him that he was not able to attend the wedding due to ill-health and he would visit his (Ravi’s) house shortly.
As promised, HDK attended the feast, beegara authana (a tradition where the groom’s side hosts lunch in honour of the bride’s family) yesterday and blessed the couple.
Addressing the media during the visit, HDK said: “the loyal party workers invited him to attend their family functions with a lot of love and respect. As politicians, we cannot compare this affection and honour with anything. However, due to pressure on time, I will not be able to attend all the functions. If they pressurise me to attend in spite of my busy schedule then it becomes very difficult for me as I have to keep attending functions from morning until evening.”
“In fact, I had attended 53 weddings in a single day once. However, in spite of pressure of work, I have still come here. Hence, I request my followers and fans not to force me to attend functions. I will visit their houses during my spare time and greet them,” he advised his fans.
MLC K.T. Srikantegowda, former MLA Sureshgowda, JD(S) District President D. Ramesh, District General Secretary Swamigowda, leader Prashanth and others were present.
