Health check-up for Palace elephants

Mysuru:  Going by the High Court order to the Forest Department to submit a detailed report to the Government on the health condition of tamed elephants housed in various camps in the State, Forest officials and Veterinarians conducted a health check-up of the six elephants housed at Mysore Palace yesterday.

The health check-up was done going by the set guidelines which also focussed on food given to the elephants. The health report will be submitted to the Government at a meeting to be held in Bengaluru on Nov. 27.

In Mysuru Division, seven elephants are housed —  six in Palace and one at Nanjangud Temple which has been shifted to Bengaluru for health reasons, said DCF Dr. K.C. Prashanth Kumar.

DCF Alexander, ACFs Krupanidhi, Parameshwarappa, RFO Devaraj, Veterinary Department Deputy Director Dr. Ajit, Veternarian Dr. D.N. Nagaraj and Palace Board In-charge of the elephants Mahendra were present.
