Heavy rains wreak havoc in Hunsur

Hunsur:  Heavy rains, accompanied by thunder, lightning and gusty winds wreaked havoc in the taluk yesterday with a senior citizen getting killed as a tree fell on the house.

Rains that began at about  6 pm continued to lash the taluk for more than an hour. Gusty winds uprooted trees which fell on electric poles, houses and roads. A huge tree which fell on Hunsur-Periyapatna road on Bengaluru-Bantwal National Highway, brought the traffic to a halt for more than two hours.

More than hundred houses at Kallahalli, Hunasegala, Adiganahalli, Thattakere, Shindenahalli, Kalabochanahalli, Mudaganuru and  Billenahosahalli in Hanagodu limits were damaged. Many agricultural fields were flooded resulting in crop loss to farmers.

Gusty winds blew the roofs of many houses resulting in rain destroying household articles and food grains stored in the houses.

Trees came crashing on electric poles resulting in power lines getting snapped and many villages plunging into darkness.

Tahsildar Basavaraj, CESC Assistant Executive Engineer and Fire and Emergency Service personnel rushed to the spot and took stock of the situation.
