Heavy rush on last day of Kannada Sammelana

Mysuru: Heavy rush was witnessed at all the venues on the last day of the three-day 83rd Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelana in city. Today being a Sunday, thousands of people attended the seminars and thronged the book and other stalls.

The main venue of the Lit Fest, Maharaja’s College Grounds, was testimony to the huge crowd with people listening to speakers in rapt attention while several others moved around the venue keen to meet writers and other eminent personalities.

Curtains will come down on the Sammelana this evening with the valedictory to take place at Maharaja’s College Grounds.

Senior litterateur Dr. H.S. Venkatesh Murthy will deliver the valedictory address from Rajarshi Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar Mahamantapa at 4.15 pm.

Union Minister H.N. Ananth Kumar and Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister H.K. Patil will be the guests of honour. Kannada Sahitya Parishat President Dr. Manu Baligar will read out the resolutions passed at the Sammelana, in the presence of Sammelana President Prof. Chandrashekar Patil (Champa).

The ghostis, cultural programmes and other events organised as part of the meet at  Maharaja’s College Centenary Hall, Kalamandira and Town Hall too will draw to a close             this evening.

Next Sammelana  at Dharwad

The 84th Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelana will be held at Dharwad.

This decision was taken at a meeting of Kannada Sahitya Parishat Central Executive Committee at Baden Powell auditorium in Scouts and Guides Grounds on Saturday evening.

The meeting was chaired by Manu Baligar. However, the venue of the 84th Kannada literary meet will be announced officially at the valedictory this evening.

Speaking to press persons after the meeting, Manu Baligar said Dharwad, Haveri, Ballari, Uttara Kannada, Kolar and Bijapur were the contenders for hosting the 84th meet. But ultimately Dharwad was chosen as the venue to host the 84th Kannada Sahitya Sammelana, he said. Dharwad, the home town of renowned poet Da.Ra. Bendre, will be hosting the meet after a gap of 60 years.
