Sir,
This refers to the news item ‘Heritage Panel shoots down MCC’s Fountain Circle plan.’ I am glad this unnecessary scheme to beautify an already beautiful piece of heritage is revoked. Yes, I call this heritage, because it has a history, a history that is to be preserved.
The name change is significant as it was renamed after Dr. Rajendra Prasad (the first President of India) Circle. It is sad we still call it Fountain Circle.
I wish in all official mention of this Circle it is called ‘Dr. Rajendra Prasad Circle’ and not Fountain Circle. The Rs. 1.2 crore can be spent on both maintenance of the structure and prevent it going the way of other heritage buildings.
The resource can be used to build a pump room and the fountains can be activated at least on Rajyotsava Day, Independence Day, Republic Day, during Dasara festivities and also when a Prime Minister, President, Vice-President or any foreign dignitaries visit this heritage and cultural city.
