Hero Indian Super League 2020-21: East Bengal earns first point of the season after hard-fought draw with Jamshedpur

East Bengal and Jamshedpur players in action during yesterday's match which ended in a draw.

East Bengal picked up their first point in the Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2020-21 after a 0-0 draw with Jamshedpur FC at the Tilak Maidan Stadium in Vasco yesterday.

Jamshedpur began positively and had a big chance to go in front in the 6th minute when a delightful ball by Mohammad Mobashir had put Aniket Jadhav through on goal. Unfortunately for Jamshedpur, Aniket couldn’t quite apply the finishing touch and ended up blazing his shot over the crossbar.

East Bengal handed Jamshedpur the initiative in the 25th minute when Lyngdoh was sent off for a second yellow card after a tackle on Alexandre Lima.

Jamshedpur almost went in front four minutes later after Nerijus Valskis volleyed a cross from the right just wide of the target. They were also inches away from taking the lead in the 38th minute when a Stephen Eze header from a corner rattled the woodwork.

The second half witnessed Jamshedpur applying the pressure on East Bengal’s defence from the get-go, but the Kolkata club did well to deny the opposition attackers time and space on the ball. As a result, Coyle’s men found it difficult to create any clear-cut opportunities to score from.

Jamshedpur also lost their man advantage in second half injury time after Laldinliana received his marching orders for a second yellow card. In the end, neither team could create an opening for a good chance at goal in the closing stages as both sides had to share the spoils.

Hero of the Match – Mohamed Irshad; HL Winning Pass of the Match – Mohammad Mobashir (Jamshedpur FC).
