Jamshedpur FC halted Mumbai City FC’s winning run in Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2020-21 after a 1-1 draw between the teams at the GMC Stadium in Bambolim yesterday.

Nerijus Valskis scored the game’s opening goal inside 10 minutes, while Bartholomew Ogbeche levelled the score for Mumbai in the 15th minute. Jamshedpur’s midfielder Aitor Monroy was then sent off before the half hour mark, but Mumbai couldn’t make the extra man count as the teams shared the spoils.

The Islanders made a bright start to the game with Ogbeche producing a shot at goal from inside the box in the first minute.

His shot though was blocked by Jamshedpur players and Mumbai were soon in for a shock in the 9th minute after conceding possession deep in their own half.
Jackichand Singh received the ball near Mumbai’s penalty area and drove into the box before crossing it for Valskis, who was characteristically clinical and slotted his attempt into the net confidently to give Jamshedpur a 1-0 lead.

Mumbai responded by going up the other end and scoring the equaliser through Ogbeche in the 15th minute. The former Nigerian international made amends for his miss in the first minute by opening up his body in the box to slot a square ball by Bipin Singh into the net.

In the 28th minute of the first half play, Monroy received his marching orders following a second yellow card. Ogbeche forced Jamshedpur’s goalkeeper Rehenesh into making a sharp save on the brink of halftime but neither team managed to get another goal as the sides went into the break with the score levelled at 1-1.

The second half saw a fierce battle between the two teams fighting for the ball to net the winning goal but in vain as the match ended in a draw.
