Hidden number plates on goods vehicles

Many goods vehicles have a metal frame welded below the rear door, extending downwards and partially or completely covering the registration number plate. This practice defeats the very purpose of displaying the registration number prominently for identification.

In the event of a road accident, hit-and-run case or traffic violation, CCTV cameras or photographs may fail to capture the registration number because it is obscured by the welded frame. Consequently, offending vehicles can escape identification and evade legal action.

Concealing or obstructing a vehicle’s registration number plate is a serious road safety and law enforcement concern.

The Regional Transport Office (RTO) and the Traffic Police should conduct a special enforcement drive to identify such vehicles and direct owners to remove all obstructions that hinder the visibility of the registration number plate.

Strict action against violators will serve as a deterrent and ensure compliance with the law. Clear visibility of registration number plates is essential for effective traffic enforcement, accident investigation and public safety.
