‘Higher education must aid in protecting environment’

Mysuru:  “Looking at the drinking water crisis staring at us, the day is not far off when the lakes, reservoirs and ground water will dry up and we have to spend a lot of money to desalinate sea water for drinking purposes,” said Mysore University former VC Prof. S.N. Hegde.

He was speaking at the one- day National seminar on the topic “The Role of Higher Education in Sustainable Development” jointly organised by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Research and Extension Centre and Mysore University Research Scholars Association at the Humanities Auditorium in Manasagangothri, here recently.

“We are in such a grave situation that it has become inevitable to protect ourselves from the water crisis we are facing. If we have to survive and save the environment for the future generation, then we have to see that the education we are receiving comes to our aid in protecting the environment,” said Prof. Hegde.

Kuvempu University former VC Dr. K. Chidananda Gowda inaugurated the seminar. Former VC of Kuvempu University Prof. P. Venkataramaiah, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Research and Extension Centre Co-ordinator Dr. S. Narendrakumar, Mysore University Research Scholars Association President D. Mahadevaswamy Mangala were present.
