Highway robbery on Yelwal Road: Police take two persons into custody

Mysuru:   Yelwal Police have taken two persons into their custody for waylaying, threatening and robbing a person of his cash and mobile phone while the person was travelling in a car from Kodagu to Bengaluru on Yelwal Bypass Road that connects Srirangapatna.

Those taken into custody have been identified as Mohammed Jameel and Mohammed Jabeer, both residents of N.R. Mohalla in city.

It is learnt that the duo, who are in Police custody, used to snatch gold chains from women and had taken up highway robbery by waylaying cars, throwing stones on cars and forcibly making them to stop and falsely accuse the driver of causing accident and extort money.

On May 21, the duo waylaid K.A. Praveen, a resident of Ponnampet in South Kodagu, when he was travelling from his house to Bengaluru in his car (KA-12 N-3714) on the Yelwal Bypass Road at about 4.30 pm and had snatched Rs.8,100 cash and a mobile phone.

As Praveen was in a hurry, he left for Bengaluru and after three days, he (Praveen) filed a complaint with Yelwal Police in this regard. The Police, who registered a case, took up the investigation and launched a hunt to nab the culprits.

Now, based on the clues, Mysuru South Rural Police Station Circle Inspector Kareem Rauther, who has taken the duo into custody, is investigating.
