Hike in third party insurance premium: Truckers to stage stir from Apr. 7

Mysuru: Condemning the hike in the Third Party Insurance Premium amount by Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA) and terming the same as unscientific, various truckers associations will be staging an indefinite stir from Apr. 7.

This is in response to the nationwide strike called by the Federation of Karnataka Lorry Owners Association in protest against the revision of the third party premium amount by IRDA.

Disclosing this at a press conference at Patrakarthara Bhavan here yesterday, Mysuru District Truckers Association President N. Sreenivasa Rao said that by increasing the third party insurance premium amount, the IRDA has put a lot of truck owners in hardship and added that about 6,000 to 7,000 trucks will go off the roads from Apr. 7.

Stating that the a memorandum to reduce the premium amount has been submitted to the IRDA, Rao said that as the IRDA has not taken any steps in this regard, the association has called for an indefinite stir.

Continuing, Sreenivasa Rao said that the IRDA has been increasing the premium amount by 50% every year which is only benefiting private insurance companies and added that IRDA would be held responsible for any inconvenience caused to the public during the stir by truckers.

Association office-bearers Mahesh, Ravi Kumar, Shivakumar and others were present at the press meet.
