Mysuru: Gayana Sabha, Mysuru, has organised Hindustani Music Concerts on Saturday (July 6) at Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha, starting at 5.30 pm.  Pt. Ravindra Gururaj Katoti will perform solo on the Harmonium and Pandit Ravikiran Manipal will present vocal recital. They will be accompanied on the tabla by Bhimashankar Bidanur.

Profile

Born in a family of music-lovers in 1969, Pt. Pandit Ravindra Gururaj Katoti started learning Hindustani Classical Harmonium at the age of eight. Since then he has been the disciple of Harmonium Legend Pandit Rambhau Bijapure. Pt. Ravindra’s Harmonium solo playing is marked by presentation in gayakianga along with elaborate exploration of the theme in lucid alap, brilliant layakari and clear tanakari. Achieving volume control by manipulating bellows is prominently noticeable in his rendition. He is equally proficient in rendering khayal, thumri, dhun, and natyageet. 

He is the first Hindustani harmonium player to be awarded ‘A’ grade by Music Audition Board of All India Radio. His experiments of combining Harmonium with other instruments such as Western Accordion, Flute, Sarangi, Sitar, Violin, Hawaiian Guitar have been appreciated. 

Pandit Ravikiran Manipal

An ‘A’ graded artiste of All India Radio, Pt. Ravikiran got initiated into classical music by his uncle Gururaj Marpally. He came under the tutelage of late Pt. G. Madhav Bhat and later underwent advanced training under late Pt. Narayana Panditji. By contemporising and elevating the values and aesthetics to higher level of sublimity and artistry under his Guru Narayan Panditji’s guidance, Pt.Ravikiran could groom his own Gayaki that has won the hearts. He has secured ‘Vidwat’ degree from Karnataka Secondary Education Board and ‘Sangeet Alankara’ from Akhila Bharata Gandharva Mahamandal, Miraj.
