Hindustani Classical Music Concerts on Nov.9

Mysuru: Gayana Sabha, Mysuru, has organised two Hindustani Classical Concerts on Nov.9 at Veene Seshanna Bhavana, Ganabharathi, at 5.30 pm.

Internationally renowned flautist Pt. Sameer Rao will enthral the connoisseurs of music with his Bansuri recital and Vidu. Shruti Bhat of Dharwad presents soulful vocal rendering.

Pt. Sameer will be accompanied by Pt. Adarsh Shenoy on the tabla. Vidu. Shruti will be accompanied by Bhimashankar Bidanur on tabla and Vid. Subray Bhat on harmonium.

Pt. Sameer Rao: ‘Breathing through the Bansuri’ is the path Sameer opted for himself at the tender age of eleven. Thus, the journey began of pursuing Hindustani music playing on the Bansuri under the able guidance of Pt. Veerabhadriah Hiremath, in Mysuru.

Sameer was fortunate to have been accepted a disciple by the renowned Bansuri wizard, Padma Vibhushan Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia, and has been under his tutelage since 2002.

He was a resident student of Panditji, from 2004 to 2010 at the Vrindaban Gurukul, Mumbai, which follows the traditional Gurukula system.Sameer is an empanelled artiste with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations. He was awarded the ‘Yuva Pratibha’ by the Directorate of Kannada and Culture, Government of Karnataka in 2004. The Sri Guru Ganayogi                                                              Panchakshara Sangeeth Yogashram Trust, Chennai, gave him the ‘Award of Excellence’ in 2004. In 2006, Sri Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha of Ntsyry awarded ‘Nada Kishore’ to Sameer, and was awarded ‘Surmani’ by the Sur Singar Samsad of Mumbai in 2008. 

Sameer is an ‘A’ Grade artiste of All India Radio (AIR) and has performed at many prestigious platforms in India, China, Switzerland, Germany, France, Australia, Spain, South Korea, Norway, United Kingdom and the US.

Vidu. Shruti Bhat: Shruti started training in music at the age of three under the guidance of her father Vid. S.N. Bhat. 

She completed ‘Vidwat’ examination when she was 19. With her sincere efforts and persistent guidance of her father, she secured ‘A’ grade in Light Music category and ‘B-High’ in Hindustani Vocal of AIR. Her recitals have been broadcast by the AIR and also Doordarshan channels. She has performed at many prestigious platforms in India.

Shruti is recipient of many awards and scholarships — Scholarship by Sangeetha-Nrutya Academy 2014; Yuva Puraskar 2013; Kala Kanmani Puraskar 2006; Rajya Pratibha Puraskar 2003 to name a few and has also won prizes in many competitions.
