Mysuru: Acclaimed Hindustani vocalists, Vidu. Apoorva Gokhale and Vidu. Pallavi Joshi, will be performing in city on Nov. 29 and 30.

On Nov. 29 (Friday) at 6 pm, they will be singing for Gayana Sabha, Mysuru, at Ganabharathi’s Veene Seshanna Bhavana.

On Nov. 30 at 6 pm, the sisters are singing for ‘Ninaada Griha Sangeet’ at Kergalli, Mysuru. It is their 15th home concert by ‘Ninaada Griha Sangeet’ organisation.

They will be accompanied on tabla by Dr. Sagar Bharatraj for both the concerts while Prasad Kamath will be accompanying the artistes on harmonium.

PROFILES

Apoorva Gokhale and Pallavi Joshi: Born in the family of traditional legendary musicians, the sisters’ duo has carved a niche for themselves as one of the sought-after vocalists of the younger generation with a firm background of Gwalior Gharana.

They have an impressive musical lineage and has proudly and responsibly inherited the musical qualities from their grandfather, the late Gayanacharya Pandit Gajananrao Joshi and their great-grandfather Pandit Antubua Joshi, an eminent Court Musician in the erstwhile State of Aundh in Satara district.

At a very tender age, they have received training from their grandfather Pandit Gajananrao Joshi. After his sad demise, both have received rigorous taleem in the form of guru-shishya parampara from their uncle and their Guru Pandit Madhukar Joshi, an eminent vocalist and violinist for more than 25 years.

Simultaneously they also have received guidance from renowned vocalist of the same tradition, Padma Shri Pt. Ulhas Kashalkarji, their aunt Dr. Sucheta Bidkar.

Apoorva has also received guidance from her father Manohar Joshi, Pt. Shankar Abhyankar, an eminent sitarist and composer, Manik Bhide, Ashwini Bhide-Deshpande, Pt. Yeshwant Mahale and Pt. Arun Kashalkar.

Apoorva and Pallavi have to their credit a large number of prestigious concert performances and have received praise- worthy reviews from musical genius and experts. Also, CD / cassette released by Legendary Legacy entitled Flowering Buds and MP3 CD entitled Madhumalati, comprising of compositions of 26 ragas. Apoorva and Pallavi have received wide acclaim for their performances all over India and also in Singapore, US & Canada.

Dr. Sagar Bharatraj: Sagar is the son and disciple of Bharathraj Venkat Rao from Calicut, Kerala, who is a senior disciple of Omkar Gulvady. After coming to Bengaluru for his Post-Graduation in Chemical Engineering, Sagar learnt under Ravindra Yavagal for a short while and has also undergone vocal accompaniment training from Aditi Upadhya.

Sagar is currently a Research Scientist with numerous international patents and publications to his credit, in the renewable energy arena, working as an Associate Director with Samsung Semiconductor India R&D, Bengaluru.

Prasad Kamath: Prasad started to learn music at the age of 7, under Vid. Mahabhaleshwar Bhagwat. He has since then been learning from the renowned harmonium maestro and composer, Sudhir Nayak, Mumbai. He has done B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering at NITK and after working in Reliance Industries Ltd., Maharashtra, for three years, he is currently based in Udupi pursuing his passion.
