Nanjangud: A student, who was crossing the road, was killed on the spot when a speeding car allegedly rammed into him in front of JSS Polytechnic in the town yesterday.
The deceased student is Pretesh Jain (19), son of Dharmendra Babu and Chaya couple of Chamarajanagar, who had completed his Mechatronics course at JSS Polytechnic in the town.
Following an interview call, Pretesh came to the Polytechnic yesterday morning to collect his certificate. After having his lunch, he again wanted to go to the Polytechnic and was crossing the road when the speeding car (KA-04-AA-4662) reportedly rammed into him. Pretesh, who sustained serious head injuries, died on the spot.
The car driver, who stopped the vehicle at the distance, fled from the spot.
Students stage protest
Meanwhile, hundreds of students staged a protest blocking Mysuru-Nanjangud National Highway for more than two hours demanding compensation be paid to the family of deceased Pretesh and install barricades in front of the college to control the speed of vehicles. They also demanded legal action against the car driver. Traffic Police managed to convince the students following which the students ended their protest. The body was then shifted to the Govt. Hospital for post-mortem. Nanjangud Traffic Police have registered a case.
