Home Minister instructs Cops to check vehicles for drugs on Highways

Mysore/Mysuru: Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai has instructed the Police to check vehicles especially during nights for drugs and also to conduct raids after collecting relevant information.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Dr. A.N. Prakash Gowda, speaking to Star of Mysore, said that the Home Minister, who addressed all Police Commissioners, Superintendents of Police (SPs), Additional SPs and DCPs of the State through video conference on Friday, has instructed the Police to invoke Goonda Act on drug peddlers, drug transporters, suppliers and on those storing narcotics.

The DCP further said that the Home Minister has instructed Economic Offences and Narcotics Police to conduct checking of vehicles on State and National Highways check-posts, especially during nights for drugs and initiate legal action immediately.

Instructing Police to conduct investigation without fear and stop any crime from taking place, the Home Minister has also ordered the Cops to stop any type of harassment on women and children and register cases immediately besides asking the Police to investigate pending cases immediately and submit the charge-sheet to the Court at the earliest.

City Police Commissioner Dr. Chandragupta, SP C.B. Ryshyanth and other Police officials, who participated in the video conference at City Police Commissioner’s Office have given all information sought by the  Home Minister,  the DCP said.
