Foundation training begins for 9th batch of 259 probationary Women Police Constables
Mysuru: ADGP (Training) Alok Kumar gave a clarion call to the probationary Women Police Constables (WPC) to hone their skills in Information Technology (IT) to tackle the challenges posed by the spurt in cyber crimes in the State.
He was addressing a gathering of women Police personnel at the inauguration of foundation training for the ninth batch of 259 probationary WPCs, organised at District Armed Reserve (DAR) Police Ground, Jyothinagar in the city this morning.
ADGP Alok Kumar said, there has been a spike in the number of cyber crime cases in the world, with Bengaluru alone accounting for 30% cases, while there is a decline in chain snatching and dacoity cases, calling for upgrading the knowledge in computers.
The training in forensic science includes new features, taking into consideration, the on-field requirements, rather than relying on the moribund tried and tested methods.
While the training modules are available on social media, the main objective behind providing foundation training is to develop leadership qualities. The behaviour with the public holds utmost significance and the way we respond to the visitors at the Police Station, shapes 50% of Policemen with better qualities.
Most importantly, WPCs should respond to women in a better way, as the individual discipline also assumes significance. If one has an eye for sensitive matters, the individual discipline naturally develops, that augurs well for the professional career.

The women PCs should develop valour and courage like women warriors of the yore like-queen Belawadi Mallamma and Onake Obavva.
“The moment you wear khaki, you should not consider yourself on the basis of gender, but should serve with a feeling that, you are on par with your male colleagues,” said ADGP Alok Kumar, instilling confidence in them.
“Everyone has domestic issues, but should work honestly for the Department, which is a primary source of a living. Unlike other States, where a stipend of Rs. 5,000 is given at the training level, here in our State, salary is given from the stage of training itself. You should have better food from the allowances you are entitled to,” advised Alok Kumar.
If anybody has a penchant for sports, better they continue in the realm and the Department will be sending them for the sports meets, after the completion of training period, assured ADGP Alok Kumar.
Principal of Police Training School Geetha Prasanna said, of the total number of 259 WPCs, who have been attending training from 24 various Police Units in the State, highest of 88 are from Bengaluru Unit and lowest of one each from Chikkaballapur and Yadgir District Police Units. One among the trainees is a B.Tech graduate, 20 engineering graduates, 55 B.Com graduates, 50 BA graduates, 68 B.Sc graduates, 5 BCA graduates, 2 BBM graduates, 6 BSc, BEd graduates, 11 M.Com graduates, 8 M.Sc graduates, 13 Post Graduates and 11 having a qualification of PUC for the recruitment of Police Constables.
